What Is PMS?

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) refers to the emotional, physical and behavioural symptoms that occur in the week or two before a period, easing within a few days after bleeding starts.

Many women experience mild premenstrual symptoms, but PMS is diagnosed when these symptoms are significant enough to affect daily functioning, relationships or quality of life.

PMS can affect women from puberty until the menopause and may worsen during perimenopause when hormone sensitivity can increase.
